The players and coaches definitely experienced a sense of relief rather than elation after yesterday's six point win over South at Hickinbotham Oval. In preparing for this game we had identified that South would be eager to respond after their big loss to Sturt at House Brothers Oval. More significantly, we identified the need for a Glenelg Football Club response after our poor fourth quarter against Central at Hamra Home Oval and our inconsistent quarter to quarter efforts in the last 6 games.
Our indicators of effort suggest that there was a positive response. Our indicators of skill and efficiency suggest that we still have a way to go. The second quarter highlighted this: GFC 18 inside 50's for 2 goals and 3 behinds. SAFC 5 inside 50's for 4 straight goals.
As expected South competed hard and they were very efficient with their use of the ball. Their response was very apparent.
Sheer grunt and weight of numbers in terms of possession, inside 50's and scoring shots, along with a fierce determination got us over the line. Extra polish is required over four quarters. The bye provides us with the opportunity to work on these areas.
Thank you to all who ventured to Hickinbotham Oval in support of the team. Your effort is very thoroughly appreciated.
Well Done to Glenelg boys Seb Tape (Captain), Brad Agnew, Darcy Armfield, Patty McCarthy, Ben McIntyre and Matthew Snook on representing South Australia with distinction at the recently concluded under 18's National Championships.
Congratulations to Patty McCarthy for his All Australian Selection.
