Besides earning two premiership points, Saturday's performance at Hamra Homes Oval was important for many reasons. The level of discipline and commitment from every player was one highlight. Perhaps the most significant aspect was the level of on field leadership from the whole playing group. For the first three quarters the leadership was strong in terms of adherence to structures, playing as a team and applying great pressure to a quality opposition.
The fourth quarter was when Central's intensity lifted to a level greater than our own. From that lift in intensity Central gained an ascendency at clearances and they scored goals quickly. Suddenly Central were well on top. Under these conditions, the need to keep control emotionally and a sense of calm needed to prevail. It was evident at crucial times that these important leadership qualities emerged in sufficient quantities to score two crunch goals and to take some of the sting out of Central's great effort to fight back.
Central is clearly a team to be respected and from Saturday's experience we come away with no less respect for them. We also come away with the knowledge that when really tested our playing group were able to stand up and see it through. Such an experience can only serve us well. We will need all of the discipline, commitment and leadership we can muster when we play Sturt at Challenge Recruitment Oval this Saturday.
Thanks to the amazing number of Glenelg supporters who trekked to Elizabeth to support the players on Saturday. Your voice and enthusiasm were much appreciated. We look forward to seeing you this Saturday.
Well done to the under 17's, under 19's and reserves for making consecutive rounds of winning football for all four grades.
Well it was a big day for the club with such a small amount of football over the last month, and to travel out to Elizabeth it was always going to be a big test. So from our point of view it was important that we got the day off on a good note and the lads didnt let anyone down. The game was in the balance all day , but once again we showed our fighting qualities to come through with a very good win and keep us alive in the top 3.
This week is our biggest challenge yet with the Sturt side taking all before them, so we will have to be at our best with a fully committed and disciplined effort which i am sure the lads will be able to provide.

It’s good to be able to win matches in difficult conditions and in different ways. Saturday’s game against Centrals was more congested and less free-flowing than we prefer to play but we were able to control the game for long enough periods to win.
With such a crowded forward-line we had to work hard for goals and the most pleasing aspect of the game was our strong work-rate, especially our tackling.
Playing an in-close style like this enables us to work on our skills, particularly the quality of our delivery under pressure, and this provides for good learning and development.

After our last round win against Port and having the bye last week, the team once again was forced to make 14 changes. The makeup of the side was very interesting as we had 11 locals and 10 country lads this week. I was most impressed with the efforts of the lads to not only work hard in difficult and greasy conditions, and use the ball well by both hand and foot, but the efforts they made to come together as a group and as a team. I thought our efforts for 3 quarters were absolutely fantastic and again we had a very good contribution from all 21 players. We also shared the goalkicking duties with James Weir (Millicent) kicking 4 goals in his best effort for the year. Ben McIntyre led from the front once again, Spencer Jackman likewise and Andrew Bradley, Ben Camilleri, Matthew Snook, Michael Bennett and Tyson Robertson all played particularly well. It was disappointing to not finish off the game off, but for 3 quarters we ran hard, tackled well and were very clean with our hands in the wet, which is an area in which we are really starting to show some progress.
