Saturday's win over North Adelaide at Challenge Recruitment Oval was punctuated by a good solid contribution from every player and a resilience that enabled us to withstand two genuine comebacks by a quality opponent.
There are some standout areas for improvement. Twenty two goals, eleven behinds suggests quite good accuracy but too many misses from directly in front along with some fundamental skill and decision making errors impeded our progress at important times. Maintaining maximum intensity over four quarters is our biggest focus. When this area dropped off in the second quarter we paid dearly for it on the scoreboard. While the third quarter response by the whole team to this situation was exceptional the ideal scenario is to avoid any severe drop off in this area of the game in the first place.

We now confront a mental and physical challenge on Saturday against South Adelaide at Hickinbotham Oval when we confront a team which taught us a football and attitude lesson in round 1. We have the opportunity to get our attitude right, to prepare well and to turn up ready to play strong, competitive football.

Thank you for your support at Challenge Recruitment Oval. Your support is appreciated by everyone involved with Glenelg Football Club. We look forward to seeing you at Hickinbotham Oval this coming Saturday.

This week there wasn't a lot to be unhappy about other than the important point that we lost the game.  We came up against a very good team in North Adelaide, and they played very well but we still had our opportunities to win the game. The main negative I can find is our set shots in which we kicked 5 goals 5 points and we lost by 11points . The boys where very committed and played some really exciting football, but once again our start was slow and we had some lapses during the game .

This week we will be trying to get a better start and we will continue to work on our club structures and hopefully play a full 4 quarters against South.

Saturday’s game resulted in a tight four point win but the game itself had quite distinct stages where we dominated the play and others where our intensity fell away. The first two quarters were fairly even and at half time we were 14 points down. Our third quarter was excellent – we kicked 8.5 to 2.2 and a number of our points were quite kickable and should have been goals. During this quarter we ran and worked hard for each other, moved the ball quickly into a well-structured forward line and put strong pressure on them all over the ground.

For the first half of the final quarter we stopped doing the things we had done so well in the third quarter. We were beaten at the stoppages and didn’t play in front. They got a bit of a run-on and we lost the lead. At this point, the team showed real character, firstly stopping North’s momentum and then getting back on top. The last 10 minutes was a real grind and, even though we shouldn’t really have been in the position we found ourselves, the fight-back was great from all players and showed how we can respond when challenged.

After last weeks solid effort for 4 quarters, we came a little unstuck after half time against a competitive North Adelaide. For two and a half quarters we were well and truly in the game, but our goal scoring opportunities dried up at the same time as North Adelaide’s midfield started to outwork us in this area.

Michael Bennett again played an outstanding game from the Southeast in the Ruck and at times he played a solo hand kicking 3 goals as well. Tyson Robertson played well along with Clint Diment, Adam Perryman and Ben Lockett did an outstanding job on North’s key forward.
