Perhaps the most satisfying aspect of our win over Central yesterday was that the players were able to back up mentally after a strong win over Sturt last week. We had strong contributions from the whole playing group. The intensity of our effort was enough to get us over the line but there will definitely be some areas for us to sharpen up on this week.

Our goalkicking inaccuracy has us languishing at the bottom end of the competition in this area. Our intensity dropped off in the third quarter. Our basic unpressured skill execution at times needed to be much sharper. Our immediate challenge is to recover well from a tough game and then maintain our focus in preparation to take on a very much in form North Adelaide at Challenge Recruitment Oval this Saturday.

On behalf of the players a big thank you to everyone who was in attendance at Challenge Recruitment Oval yesterday to witness one of our very best wins against very high quality opposition. There is no doubt that our strong support base provides a boost to the players by adding excitement and energy to the atmosphere of the day.

A big game was required this weekend due to our lack of consistancy in previous weeks. The lads have been working very hard on our structures and our ability to play out 4 full quarters.

The game was really even for 3 quarters, I know the score doesnt show that but our inside 50s doubled centrals and our accuracy was obviously ordinary, but our ball winning was there and our pressure was very good. Games like these are great for young men to understand what can be achieved if they really believe, and i think the last quarter speaks for itself, it was a great team effort with some very good pressure and some quick, direct, clean football.

Well onto this week and another chance to work on our structures and our ability to play out 4 full quarters against a very good reserves team in North Adelaide, so with the right excecution i am sure the lads will make a very good account of themselves.

The Under 19s had a very strong win against Centrals at Elizabeth on Saturday. We started the game well, moving the ball quickly and effectively into our forward line and leading 7.4 to 2.1 at quarter time. We let them back into the game in the second quarter and led by a goal at half time which had become a two goal deficit by three quarter time.

However, we had started to play well again in the second half of the third quarter and we carried this style into the final quarter, showing real character to outscore the opposition 5.5 to 1.0 despite having a number of injuries which meant we couldn’t rotate the midfielders.

The game saw a very even team effort with all players contributing strongly. Three players – Cale Urwin, Sam Talbot and Hayden Jolley – played their first game in the Under 19s and each acquitted himself well.

Shannon Snook played a great captain’s game, with lots of 1%ers and around 30 possessions. Nick Ramsey continued his excellent form in the midfield and Josh Trembath marked strongly and kicked 6 goals. The Coaches’ Award went to Eric Drew who played a courageous game characterised by strong tackling and effective use of the ball.

An intriguing stage was set for the Under 17's this week with the first games of College Football and the promotion of a couple of our best young players to the Under 19's. 16 changes occurred which meant that we had 12 debutants playing in the Glenelg Guernsey for the very first time at this level.

I am pleased to report that they all contributed after a very shaky start. At one stage in the 2nd quarter Centrals were 7 goals up and we were struggling to not only find the footy, but remember people's names. However after many different moves and stopping the flow of footy from the midfield, we managed to kick the last 3 goals of the quarter to give us some confidence moving forward. In the 3rd quarter the boys really responded with some quick and fluent football and we managed to hit the front at 3 quarter time. We also lost 2 players at half time and during the last quarter, we really struggled to finish off the game.

To the boys credit, they kept persisting and Centrals kicked the last 2 points of the game to tie the game with 15 seconds left on the clock. We gave the coaching staff and supporters a heart attack with 5 seconds to go with a very dangerous short kick, but Ben McIntyre thankfully held the mark and the siren went. Our best players included Michael Bennett (Millicent) in the Ruck, Ben Camilleri (Broken Hill), Tyson Robertson (ex-Robe), Ben Lockett, Adam Perryman (Mt Gambier), Jack Georgeson who kicked 4 goals and Clint Diment (Bordertown).
