Sundays Senior performance leaves us with plenty of work to do this week in preparation for our first home game against the Eagles this Saturday 5th April.

Poor discipline, indecisiveness and sub-standard execution of skill were reflected in an apparent lack of intensity and mental preparation.  Much was spoken about during the pre-season regarding the importance of our first game of the year, in terms of getting us away to a positive start.  We now have 5 days to regroup and produce our best effort against an opposition which went down fighting in its first outing for the season.

The challenges before us to turn our attitude and form around in a short space of time.  I encourage you and fellow supporters to attend the first home match this Saturday, your support for us will be greatly appreciated.

Mark Mickan

Senior Coach

This game was a game of two halves. In the first half, although our work-rate was good, we couldn’t get any fluency in our play. We had more Inside 50s than the opposition but we were down by nearly 4 goals at half time.

From the start of the third quarter we took control of the game, with plenty of run and support, quick ball movement and a well-structured forward line. Nick Pearce took over in the ruck and our midfielders started winning the stoppages. The second half saw us have 20 scoring shots to 4 and winning by over 6 goals.

Our intensity, particularly our tackling, was good all day and it was an excellent response from the team after half time.

We were very encouraged with the start to the year by the playing group. Early in the game we were first to the footy, we used and gave the footy by hand and foot quite well and our run from the back half was most pleasing.

Darcy Armfield had a huge influence on the game by kicking 12 goals and proved a handful to the opposition all day. He was well served by the midfield and whilst we became a bit too Darcy conscious at times, he was able to present and kick truly all game long. I am sure that Darcy will move up to the Under 19’s and acquit himself very well for the remainder of the year.

Hayden Jolly also played a fine game off half back along with Ben McIntyre who made the trip from the Southeast and ran hard all day long. There were many other fine contributors for the day.
