We won the elimination final for many reasons. We were lucky. Sturt missed an easy shot at goal very late in the game. We were courageous. Recovering from a 21 point quarter time deficit after a very poor start (full credit to Sturt's pressure) took great courage. The players held their nerve. Strong leadership was required from the team leaders and from the whole playing group and it was delivered. Persistence was perhaps our strongest quality. We never really got our best game going but there was a persistence and a 'stickability' that said "we're not going away". Yes we were lucky but without these other qualities it wouldn't have mattered if Sturt had missed that final shot at goal because they would have been comfortably in front anyway.
The players appreciated the tremendous support afforded them by our wonderful supporters. Thank you all. This weekend is a very important one for the Glenelg Football Club.
On Saturday, our reserves who finished top at the end of the minor round play South Adelaide at Coopers Stadium in the second semi final commencing at 11.15am and our under 19's play
Central in the first semi final at Coopers Stadium commencing at 2.00pm. It would be great to see
everyone at these games followed by another huge representation on Sunday at Adelaide Oval to support the senior team when we take on the Eagles commencing at 12.10pm.
