Glenelg Football Club
was honoured with the Encouragement of Sport Award at
the 2006 Clubs SA Awards Night, held at the Park Convention
Centre, AAMI Stadium Saturday 14th October.
A first time recipient of this award, the Glenelg Football
Clubs Chief Executive Officer Darren Chandler said
"Sport and in particular football is our major focus,
with 100% of our income from our Licensed Venue being
put back into to sport. We understand the needs and demands
of those involved in all aspects of sport and focused
on promoting activities that promote a fit and healthy
lifestyle to all ages. It is fantastic that our efforts
have been recognised and it gives us a foundation from
which we can further grow and develop."
"We are a community motivated club, and always make
a conscious effort to give as much as we can back to the
community that has given us tremendous support for so
many years."Chandler continued.
Glenelg Football Club is a proud and consistent supporter
and sponsor of Oakdale Netball Club, Glenelg District
Cricket Club and works closely with Glenelg Primary School
as well as all other local schools in the metropolitan
and south east districts. The club also is a strong and
avid supporter of the Auskick programme and regularly
promotes school football for children at primary schools
within its region.
Clubs SA Awards of Excellence acknowledges and rewards
Clubs who have achieved excellence in their field over
the past year. The increase in membership, oval attendance
and the increase in functions held at the Glenelg Function
Centre by local sporting clubs over the past year is a
clear indication as to why the Glenelg Football Club was
indeed a worthy recipient.
"We do our best to accommodate and assist the local
clubs and encourage them to hold their functions and presentations
with us through providing them with full support and services
and if possible do this at very reasonable prices."Chandler
continues, "We are a football club, but we are also
a community club and it is our goal to be supportive and
successful in all facets of our club". |
