The Bays Leadership Group
Strong, skilled and determined are the key attributes of Glenelg Football Club’s recently selected Senior Leadership group 2007 season.

For the second year, Ben Mules will captain the Tigers in 2007. Highly respected for his “call it how it is” attitude, the genuinely tough player is described by Senior Coach Mark Mickan as being a great example for the younger players. “His attack on the ball and tackling and skill” Mickan commented “are the strengths which are necessary in a leader.”

Adam Fisher continues his leadership role for the second year as Vice Captain. “His discipline is exemplary. He is a tough, skilful player who is valued by his team mates” remarked Mickan.

Taking on the role of Deputy Vice Captain for the first time is the 2006 Magarey Medallist Brett Backwell. Mickan stated “Backwell is well suited to this role and is renowned for his mentorship with the younger players.”

The strength of the leadership group is evident in the inclusion of experienced players Paul Sherwood and Ben Moore. Sherwood is a mature member of the squad who is held in high esteem for his very well rounded persona. Moore, a previous Captain of the Bays, is vastly regarded for his professionalism in his preparation.

Rounding out the leadership pack are three highly respected players each with their individual strengths. Jeff Smith is a key big man in the Club, whose leadership skills were of great benefit to the team in 2006. Ty Allen is another who portrays strong leadership. “He is a tough, uncompromising player who ‘walks the walk’ ” Coach Mickan commented. Luke Panozzo is a new comer to the leadership group. “He has a drive and determination to see the Club move forward in the future” Mickan stated.

The strength of the leadership group is proportionate to the strength, drive and leading abilities of the overall playing group. “All members of the group know that it is their charter to be guardians of the standards and culture we have created” Mickan concluded. The leadership group are under the guidance of mentor Kym Steer and his customised leadership programme.
